China limits the number of time children under the age of 18 can play online games

Online games have become popular in many areas of the world and online gaming events dubbed e-Sports are now being organized in virtually every country. Researchers also point out that gamers are more likely to engage in online gaming via their mobile phones than they are addicted to traditional online games using a standard PC. However, throughout this period, the tendency of school pupils to get addicted to online games has increased significantly despite obtaining instruction from their homes, they have further noted.

Limitation period

The Chinese government has issued a severe ban against the use of gambling by people under the age of 18 in China.

According to Xinhua, the state's national news agency for printing and publishing, internet gaming are only allowed from 8 pm to 9 pm. That's Friday, on the weekends.

The initial restrictions limited online gaming to 3 hours per week but eventually raised the playing hours to 3 hours during the holidays.

How does this happen?

According to the worldwide media, this is done using facial recognition technology. The player has to link his real national identity card with his account. In regulating it, it can determine whether you are a minor. If the player plays beyond the allocated time, he has to show his face through the facial recognition system. Here, even if you appear to be an adult on your ID, if you do not scan the face recognition system, you will be considered a minor.

Thereafter, in case of any breach of the relevant institutional norms, the juvenile will be contacted through the adult information in the identity card of the participant.

It was further said that the Chinese government has confidence in the online gaming business and especially Tencent Multinationals which lead it.

Is this an unauthorized regulation?

This regulation has been heavily criticized in the worldwide media. Many remarked that such unlawful regulation, which affects adults as well as children, was undesirable in many countries.
